WTCW Tree Climbing Workshop is back at Camp Hi-Rock, Mt. Washington, MA in September 13-15, 2024!

EVENT DETAILS: 

This all-inclusive workshop includes food, lodging, instruction, use of gear, networking and CEU's.   You will learn how how to climb trees with an emphasize on Arboriculture.  This safe, empowering experience will renew your spirit, allow you to bond with others curious and excited to advance their knowledge of trees, tree climbing, and the tree climbing community.  Most importantly, you will leave with new and enhanced skills with new friends and a network of professional colleagues.

Check in:  

Check in is at Noon on Friday.  Feel free to arrive earlier; enjoy some time by the lake or hike along the woodland trails.  Allow yourself to come unplug for a bit in this beautiful location.

Travel:

If you need to a ride from the airport - please research car share programs (Taxi, Uber, Lyft, etc.). or if you wish to coordinate rides with other participants, we will be sending out an email with a Carpool Coordinator.  (Camp Hi-Rock is fairly remote, so carpooling would be easiest.)

Lodging:  

Bring your own bedding (sleeping bag & pillow). The camp offers indoor bunk-bed lodging, bathrooms and showers. No linens are provided; bring your own towel and personal hygiene items.  If you wish to tent camp you are welcome however you must provide your own tent.   

Food:  

All meals & snacks are included in your registration costs!  Friday: dinner, Saturday: breakfast, lunch and dinner, Sunday: breakfast and lunch.  If you have food allergies, the food gurus will do their best to fulfill your requests.  If you need special snacks- please bring them.  There is a refrigerator on site for everyone to share in the bunk house.

Tree Climbing Gear: 

If you have your own tree climbing gear and wish to use it at the event, please bring it with any gear inspection documentation.  Your gear shall be inspected and signed off by a WTCW team member before using.

Topics: This workshop will cover all aspects of tree climbing.  The course will be adapted to the student's experience and competence levels.  For example: we will cover tree identification, tie-in point selection, throwline, climbing line installation, ascending and decending with closed and open MRS, and several options of SRS, rope advancement, lanyard use and management, canopy route planning, rope retrieval, and more.  Communication skills and networking with people who care for trees and for those who work in arboriculture... and more. 

Clothing: 

The weather can change quickly;  please come prepared for all weather!  Please pack long pants, long sleeves, hiking (over the ankle) boots, rain and warm jackets, warm hat and gloves, and don't forget sunscreen and bug spray.  Please come prepared.

Yoga & More:

Your yoga mat and blocks want to join the fun.  If you don't have them, WTCW has some to share (first come, first serve).

Please bring your own water bottle and snack container. Water and snack coolers are available in the field.  

Consider bringing your own plate and silverware to reduce your environmental footprint. The caterer has a biodegradeable weekend option.

Course Check Out:  

The workshop ends at 5:30pm on Sunday.  Please honor this scheduled time; sponsors share amazing prizes and you don't want to miss this opportunity to receive amazing tree climbing gear and more.

Cancellation Policy: 

If you can’t attend the event, please email ASAP.  Full refunds will be made until noon on August 2nd, 2024. Refund less $100 available until August 23, 2024.  After August 23rd, no refunds will be granted.
